The Living Archive is the Snøhetta Foundation’s open platform for studying and sharing the creative processes behind architecture, design, and public art. Developed in collaboration with the Norwegian National Museum of Art, Architecture, and Design and the National Archives of Norway, it transforms the idea of an archive from a place of storage into a living ecosystem of learning. Through exhibitions, dialogue, and research, the archive explores how digital innovation can preserve and communicate architectural heritage. The joint project Bibliotheca Alexandrina: Open Archive investigates how emerging technologies — including artificial intelligence — can make architectural knowledge more accessible and engaging. Located at Skur 39 in Oslo, the archive and its Archive Gallery together form a dynamic environment where preservation and creation coexist. Traveling exhibitions such as People & the Library of Alexandria extend this work globally, translating stories of collaboration into new cultural contexts.
